Area Info
Edgewater is located on the Central Oregon Coast, found just off the Pacific Coast Highway 101 at milepost 158.3. We are located on the west side of the highway, so beach access is a short and safe walk away from your cottage. The immediate area has few major developments, so making it a tranquil area even during the spring and summer! As a consequence of this being a more isolate, large stretch of beach, you are more likely to be the fist to find cool pieces of driftwood, agates, and shells than other beaches in the area.
Edgewater is a great home base for your Oregon Coast getaway! We’re not too far from the cities, but we’re still far enough away to avoid the crowds, or escape them after a busy day of exploring the area.
We are close to a couple charming communities. Waldport is about a 5 minute drive north of us (2.5 miles). Waldport has a bookstore, a few eclectic shops, a grocery story, and several great restaurants and bars. It’s also an excellent location for crabbing! It also has a cool skate park, and a large park (“downtown”) with tons of structure for children to play on! It has several events. The elementary school also has a great playground. There is also a golf course. A couple notable events are the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic, an annual cycling event that occurs in May and that starts in Waldport! Another even that occurs in September is the Beach Bike and Blues Festival! Waldport traditionally has it’s fireworks over the bay on the 3rd of July. (Fireworks in Yachats and Newport are typically on the 4th of July).
Yachats is about a 10 minute drive south of us (6.1 miles). Yachats is a charming village with tons of fun shops, an art gallery, a grocery store, a bunch of restaurants and pubs. There is a small, enclosed park, which is great for small children. Next to the park is a skate park! It’s a very active community. They host events year-round. Notable events are the Yachats Mushroom Festival in October, and the La De Da Parade on the 4th of July. Yachats also hosts an annual trail running event in January, with distances ranging from 9 miles to 50km, both of which take you through Cape Perpetua!
Newport is about a 30 minute drive (18 miles) to the north of us. It is one of the major economic and cultural centers in Lincoln County. It has tons of shops, restaurants, multiple grocery stores, bars and pubs, and lots of options for activities. It has a hospital with an emergency room, and a walk-in clinic. It’s the home base to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Operations Center, which is next to two great tourist destinations: the Hatfield Marine Science Center and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Be sure to check out Newport’s Historic Bay Front and Newport’s Historic Nye Beach Neighborhood. Newport’s Performing Arts Center is located in Nye Beach. Newport is also home to the main campus of the Oregon Coast Community College! There are numerous parks, a skate park, and a golf course in Agate Beach.
Lincoln City is about a one hour drive to the north (43 miles). Over the summer and holidays it can take a bit longer than an hour to reach. Like Newport, Lincoln City is also a cultural hub. There is a lot of culture in Lincoln County! There is an outlet mall, tons of restaurants, quirky stores, and of course other cool places to stay if you’re looking for something other than Edgewater! There are numbers annual events. One of them is the Summer Kite Festival, which is held every June; appropriately, Lincoln City has been dubbed the “Kite Capital of the World". There is the annual “Deck the Docks”, a holiday light festival usually held in early December; however, those dates are subject to change (in 2025 it was held in mid-November). Lincoln City also has a skateboard park, Kirtsis Park, and a hospital with a level IV trauma center. There are also multiple golf courses.
